of John Pyle of Hamby Precinct, Christian County, Ky., were Nicholas and
Mary Pyle, of Carolina, John being one of a family of nineteen children born
to them. His paternal grandparents were Nicholas Pyle and Ann Black, both
of whom were Carolinians. John was born June 18, 1813, and on the 22d of
January, 1836, married Miss Jane Meacham, who was born March 16, 1820. She
was a daughter of Wyatt Meacham, who was born in 1798, the son of Joseph
Meacham and Mary West, both natives of England. Her mother was Ellen Robinson,
a daughter of Abner Robinson, of English ancestry, and Nancy Duty, of Irish
origin. Ellen was born in 1798, and was married to Wyatt Meacham in 1817.
He died in 1876, and she in 1878. They were the parents of Abner W., Jane
E. and Joseph A. Meacham. To John and Jane E. (Meacham) Pyle were born ten
children, as follows: Arabella M., born December 29, 1836; Abner W., born
November 22, 1844; James born December 10, 1846; Sarah N., born December
27, 1848; Byron A, born July 10, 1850; Falconer O., born October 30, 1851;
Harvey R., born September 27, 1854; Almeda E., born November 18, 1856; Albina
C., born January 21, 1859; Jo Emma Pyle, March 25, 1860; all deceased except
Abner W., James F. and Jo Emma.”

his [Ben Allder's] death shortly before the Civil War, his widow, Sarah Jane
Allder, with her five single children, and one married daughter and family
moved in three covered wagons to Missouri. . . . When they left Kentucky they
planned to settle in Texas but as they came near the border they were discouraged
by tales of those they met leaving the Lone Star State. So they turned around
and after three months travel reached the Pyle relatives in Missouri on Christmas
Eve, 1859. These relatives had come from Kentucky to Missouri before 1840."

From "History of Dade County and Her People," Vol. II, page 254: "William
K. Pyle was a son of William Pyle Sr. and his wife, Hannah, born Standlee;
the father of English and the mother of Scottish descent. The elder Pyle, whose
original ancestors in America came over with William Penn, emigrated from the
vicinity of Pinkneyville, Ill, near which place William K. Pyle spent his childhood
and youth, to Dade County, Missouri in the year 1850, bringing with him his
entire family, which consisted of his wife and several sons and daughters,
the sons being all of the tall pioneer type. These sons, as well as the daughters,
are now all dead, Carter S. having died in Kansas in the early 70's; David,
the oldest son, in Tennessee in 1881, and Claudius L. (uncle Less), in January
1913, in Dade County, Missouri. William Pyle Sr. settled near the old Mt. Zion
church in Sac Township, or, rather, not far from where that church was after
located, he being one of the organizers of it. He preached there occasionally,
or, maybe, regularly, for a while, being an early adherent of Alexander Campbel
and member of the Christian, or Disciples', church. Besides preaching, he tilled
the soil, ran the Seybert mill for a while, and, to diminish the monotony,
read a great deal out of some ancient histories and other books, which he was
fortunate in possessing, and of whose contents he was thoroughly familiar.
Died in the year 1875, not rich, but well esteemed. William K. Pyle, while
still a young man and in a few years after coming to this country, married
a distant relative of his, a daughter of Benjamin Pyle, an early settler here.
Of this marriage were born Sheridan B., Siria O. (Mrs. Brayshaw), and Rosalia,
who died in December, 1876. His wife having died some time before 1860, and
the war of the Rebellion coming on in 1861, he entered the Missouri Home Guards,
as he wished to be near his family. He afterwards served as second lieutenant
of Company Il, Fifteenth Missouri Regiment, Cavalry Volunteers, to the conclusion
of the war. Married again December 31st, 1868, this time Mary E. Finley, who
is still living and who was born in Dade County (then Polk) December 29th,
1839. There were born of this marriage: Willie (now Mrs. Hamner), Elmer E.
and Jessie (Mrs. Dawson.) He entered land not far from where Cane Hill now
is, and began clearing up the same about the time of his first marriage, but
afterward sold this to G. N. Alder: continued, however, to reside in that vicinity
on a farm in Dade County, which he bought in 1867, or at Dadeville, alternating
two or three times, till his removal to Greenfield February 9th, 1881. . .

in Hopkinsville September 29, 1870, to Miss Olivia J., daughter of Henderson
and Maggie Wade. Mrs. Pyle was born July 10, 1854, in Todd County, Ky. They
have three daughters, viz.: Lena B., aged eleven years; Maggie M., aged nine
years, and Mary H., aged four months. Mr. Pyle is a member of the Masonic
fraternity, Knights of Honor, and both he and wife are members of the Christian

Jane was of average height and weight but never over weight. She had blue eyes,

N. Pyle has been one of the leading farmers and stock-raisers of Cedar County,
Mo., for a number of years, his farm being situated about six miles southwest
of the county seat. He was born in Dade County, Mo., in 1853, and is a son
of A. M. and Minerva J. (Wilson) Pyle, the father being a native of Christian
County, and one of the leading pioneer farmers and stock-raisers of Cedar County,
and one of its prominent and influential citizens. John N. Pyle, the eldest
of a family of ten children, lived with his parents until he attained his majority,
when he married Miss Mollie C. Hamner, who was born in Iowa, in 1855, and engaged
in farming on his own responsibility. He is now a well-to-do farmer; a man
of sound judgment, and is highly esteemed by all who know him. He acquired
a common school education in his youth, and has always been a Republican in
his political views. He and wife are members of the Christian Church, and their
union has resulted in the birth of six children: Claude A., Maud M., Harry
E., Bessie G., Charles E. and Willis. Mrs. Pyle's parents, Edward D. and Sarah
J. Hamner, are residents of Greenfield, Dade County, Mo., and were born in
Kentucky. After residing in Indiana for some time they removed to Iowa, and,
in 1870, came to Cedar County, Mo., located soon after in Dade County."

H. Pyle's children. He lived most of his life near Jerico Springs, Cedar Co.,
MO. He had his own 20-acre farm near that of his father's. The farmhouse was
small, and had no electricity, so kerosine [sic] was used for heating and cooking,
and the well took many years to afford. . . . He was highly prejudiced against
dancing and card playing, considering them to be sinful. The family moved to
Anaconda in 1892 to be near their oldest son Claude who had left in 1891 to
try his luck in the mining area near Anaconda, Montana. The family returned
to their farm in 1895. In 1916 the family again moved to Montana. The farm
was taken over by John's brother, Leonidas who also owned and ran the old Albert
Monroe Pyle farm."

he and his father built a long suspension bridge across the Canadian River,
an amazing feat! . . . . He has introduced several new varieties of useful
ornamental plants, the outstanding one being the "Gareei Cypress",
which is very popular in Oklahoma, Arkansas and southern Missouri. . . . Ed
was drafted by 'Uncle Sam' in the extensive rehabilitation program for GI's
after World War II. His course was in Propagation and Nursery Practices, under
the auspices of Oklahoma City High School. He had 20-25 returned soldiers enrolled,
several of whom have become leading nurserymen in Oklahoma and other states.
Ed was elected to Honorary Membership by the Oklahoma Horticultural Society
in 1951, under the auspices of Oklahoma A & M, now Oklahoma State University."

By the Dozen. Clint and Myrtle Donham were parents of eight boys and four girls
(two sets of twins). The boys were Vincent, Miller, Clayton 'Boots,' Dayton
'Tad,' Loren 'Bud,' Robert, Owen, and Jim. The girls were Lorraine, Wilma,
Eva and Alice. The family moved from Springerton, IL to East St. Louis in 1926.
Vincent was a stationary engineer, Miller a railroad switchman, 'Boots' a steamfitter,
'Tad' a federal worker in a V.A. Hospital, 'Bud' worked at Sherman Manufacturing,
Robert was a truck driver, Jim a City fireman, Owen in nursing home. All sisters
were married and had families. Five brothers were in World War II, Vincent
in Navy (ships repair), Boots in Navy on a destroyer, Miller with the arm engineers.
Tad in the Infantry was a P.O. W. in Germany for awhile. Robert was in the

Dec. 29th, 1881, and departed this life December 31st, 1951, aged 70 years
and 2 days. His parents were Charles D. and Emma West. On Dec. 6th, 1908, he
was united in marriage to Grace Gaunt; to this union 8 children were born,
two of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Grace and six
children; two sons, Fay and Avery, and four daughters, Mrs. Bernice Claypool,
Mrs. Leona Dimmit, Mrs. Emma Lou Obert and Mrs. Dorothy Alexander; also in
the home, one granddaughter, Mrs. Joyce Strader, who had been with her grandparents
since childhood. Sixteen grandchildren, two brothers, Marvin and Charles, and
three sisters, Mrs. Lula Shrum, Mrs. Lizzie Logan and Mrs. Norma Aikins, also
survive him. His hand was extended in kindness to all mankind about him. To
his family he gave a full measure of devotion. No neighbor or friend ever appealed

79, of Phenix City, Alabama, a well-decorated U. S. Army veteran, passed away
in Phenix City on Tuesday, February 29, 2000. Mr. Lindley was born on September
4, 1920, in Stockton, Missouri, the son of Frank Lee and Alpha Fay Pyle Lindley.
On January 31, 1948, he married Mary Killingsworth in Columbus, GA. He served
in the United States Army from 1940 until 1966. He received the Silver Star,
the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge Philippine Islands Liberation
Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with five bronze stars, and the Presidential
Unit Citation Bronze Star. Mr. Lindley was a Pearl Harbor survivor and served
in the Korean Conflict, retiring as a 1st Sergeant in 1966, after 26 years
of service. The Owner and Operator for several years of the Bama Used Car Dealership
in Phenix City, Mr. Lindley also worked for Ronnie Smith, a car dealer in Phenix
City. He was an avid fan of the University of Missouri Tigers. Mr. Lindley
also enjoyed playing golf and spent several summers in Chillicothe playing
the sport. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jeff Lindley
and Frank Lee Lindley II; two sisters, Trula Masters and Sister Mary Gemma
Lindley; two infant brothers, Howard and Little Elmer; and one infant sister,

From the Springfield News-Leader, July 9, 2004: "Mary Leona (West) Dimmitt
of Springfield, age 87, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 6, 2004. Mary
was born Aug. 27, 1916, in the Dade County area to Tom and Grace West. On July
4, 1931, she married her beloved husband, Ira Dimmitt, who preceded her in
death June 14, 1979. They would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary
this year. To this union they were blessed with seven children. She was a longtime
member of the Solid Rock Church which provided a network of loving friends.
One of the fondest memories of Mary is how her family loved and appreciated
her delicious country cooking and desserts. In a generation when wives did
not work, Mary held a job outside the home and with the help of her husband,
Ira, successfully raised seven children. In addition to her husband; three
brothers, Ray, Fay, and Avery West; two sisters, Bernice Claypool and Dorothy
Alexander; one son, Gordon "Butch" Dimmitt; one daughter, Delores
Stiles; one son-in-law, Holman Strader; two granddaughters, Debbie and Kathy
Stiles preceded her in death. . . . Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial
Gardens, Springfield, Mo."
